The idea of Nakopni Prahu was inspired by the presidential hackathon in Taiwan, which highlighted the power of civic initiative and a proactive approach to solving public problems. After returning to Prague, it was decided to adapt the concept to local conditions. And so a unique competition was created to encourage innovation and collaboration to improve the city.
"You may recall a trip with the then mayor Zdeněk Hřib and we visited the Minister for Digitization of Taiwan, Ms. Audrey Tang. She drew our attention to a very interesting presidential hackathon project that was then in its second or third year, and the purpose of their presidential hackathon was to motivate citizens to advocate for change in public affairs, to come up with proactive ideas themselves, and to see what such a small initiative can change," said Jaromír Beránek, member of the Czech Pirate Party, at a press conference at the occasion of the launch of the Nakopni Prahu registrations. After his return to Prague, he and other representatives of the city agreed to try and replicate this idea. They implemented the idea in the context of Prague and the Nakopni Prahu competition, as we know it now, was born.
The whole event wouldn't have happened without the support of the Prague City Hall. Thanks to this support, the competition can continue to serve as a bridge between citizens and the city administration, and together shape the future of Prague.
