"I am extremely pleased that we have managed to involve the public to such an extent in the 5th year of our Innovation Marathon. Among the nearly fifty teams, we are registering a variety of innovative ideas for Prague that came from competitors across generations. I appreciate the active approach of all the teams that sent their ideas and want to contribute to the development of our city," said Daniel Mazur, Councillor for ICT, Smart City, Science, Research and Innovation.
The project ideas submitted by the teams fall under one of the five challenges, which represent specific areas for improving the lives of Prague's citizens. This year, we have defined five challenges for Nakopni Prahu: Environment and Energy Management; Innovation and Culture; Data, Artificial Intelligence and Digitalisation; Mobility of the future and a City for people.
"Innovation and innovative thinking are areas that we at the OICT address on a daily basis. I see public engagement as a key requirement for innovation to become a normal part of the lives of the citizens of Prague. In addition, by participating in Nakopni Prahu for more than four months, the teams will get to know better how the city works and what are the specific opportunities and challenges of implementing new projects at the Prague level," adds Benedikt Kotmel, CEO of OICT, the municipal company that organizes the Nakopni Prahu Innovation Marathon together with Prague.
After the opening event on March 21, 2024, teams will be treated to expert lectures, workshops and personalised mentoring, all with the aim of taking them from idea to implementation. During the spring, an expert jury will select the ten best teams, which will then go on to the Nakopni Prahu final. This will take place on June 19, 2024. The top three will then receive a financial award to further develop the project, as well as receive expert project support from the city.
